Winter Offers Optimal Opportunities to Prep Your Western N.C. Home for Spring Sale

Organizing Home for Spring Sale

Considering selling your Asheville-area home? Winter is a great time to tackle all the prep involved ahead of listing. Here are a few tips for getting your Western North Carolina property in stand-out shape come spring selling season.

Organizing Home for Spring SaleCut the clutter

Decluttering is an easy first step, as it requires little more than an objective eye; since you have a few months ahead of listing, you can take your time and de-clutter with care. Take inventory of all surfaces – countertops, bookcases, tables – as well as cabinets, closets, drawers and other spaces buyers may view, and pare down knickknacks, crowded stacks of papers and books, unnecessary personal items, and the like. You want buyers to see space potential; even a smaller home can give the illusion of space when clutter is cut out. If you can, curtail furnishings in order to open up rooms, and clear halls and other pathways to allow for unimpeded flow throughout.

Simple spruce-ups

Any home will accumulate wear and tear over time, no matter how careful the occupants. Take advantage of being indoors during the colder weeks of winter to give your walls and baseboards a fresh coat of paint yourself, in a soothing, universally appealing shade. Replace worn or outdated fixtures, cabinet and door handles, lighting and blinds. Tidy areas that don’t typically get a lot of attention – think closets, kitchen cabinets and bathroom drawers. Small spruce-ups like these combine to give an overall impression of a clean, cohesive aesthetic.

Focus on curb appeal

A potential buyer’s impressions begin as soon as they catch sight of your house. Make what greets them from the street draw them in the door. Winter is the perfect time to see your yard, porch, patio, pathways and exterior devoid of blooming trees, leaves and other foliage that may camouflage issues. Address things like peeling paint, clogged gutters, and worn decking. Consider a full exterior paint job, or if your budget doesn’t allow it, simply add a fresh color to your front door to make it pop. If you want to update or overhaul your landscaping, winter is a good time to map out a strategy, and take inventory of what you’ll want to purchase and plant come spring.

Selling Western North Carolina HomeReady, set, stage

Are you thinking of staging your property? The increased time spent indoors during the winter offers the ideal opportunity to get a feel for a stand-out set-up. Are you looking for a modern, clean look? A warm and cozy aesthetic? Whatever the vibe, begin by neutralizing furniture and textile colors, increasing lighting, and creating interest even in underutilized rooms. Fashion an environment that feels inviting, one that potential buyers can see themselves in.
