End of the Year Financial Check List

financial checklistDecember has many of us thinking we can't believe it is almost the end of the year. Where did 2015 go? As the year comes to a close, it's a good time to do a little financial housekeeping.

Consider the following as your close at your year and start 2016.

Give... reduce your tax liability by doing good:

Now is the time to get credit for your 2015 tax return. December is a time where we are reminded of the many people in need in and around our communities. This is a good time to give goods, clothing, or cash to inspire good.

Some ideas on local Asheville charity needs-

Donate cash to a local Holiday Toy Drive - Eblen Charities St. Nicklaus Project

Donate cash to help finish a women's shelter - Western Carolina Rescue Mission Woman's Shelter on Patton Avenue

Re-assess your Retirement

Contribute to your 401(k) or IRA

Defer income if 2015 was a high-income year.

Take a Look at Your Mortgage

Mortgage rates have been low. It may be time to take the plunge and refinance while interest rates are still lower than years past.

Rents are on the Rise... Is it Time For You to Buy a Home?

Rents are projected to rise in 2016, and in Asheville rentals go off the market as fast as they go on. This may be the perfect time to start thinking about buying a home. With the holidays and winter, it may help with negotiations, price, and not competing with a crowd of buyers looking at the same homes.
