Discover Pastoral, Peaceful Fairview

Hickory Nut Gap Store Fairview

Boasting a bucolic backdrop of rolling hills and idyllic farmland, the community of Fairview in southeastern Buncombe County beckons. Fairview provides peaceful seclusion while at the same time offering perfect proximity to all downtown Asheville has to offer. U.S Route 74A (Charlotte Highway), which runs through Fairview, allows for easy passage to and through the area. Calling Fairview home means never having to leave to “get away from it all”!

A Range of Residences in Fairview

Fairview NC FarmlandFairview, settled in the late 18th century, was initially known as Cane Creek. As the community has grown, so have the living options. A census-designated place, Fairview offers a range of homes varying in size and style: everything from quaint mountain cottages on small parcels to rambling ranches surrounded by acres of untouched woods to pristine new developments. In addition, land for sale means you can start from scratch in making the home of your dreams a reality.

For families, the nearby Cane Creek Pool, part of Buncombe County Parks and Recreation Services, offers warm-weather fun. Other quick day trips from Fairview include Lake Lure and Chimney Rock, both about 16 miles southeast. And downtown Asheville is only 11 miles away.

Fairview has Farms Galore

Fairview NC Cheese FarmMany working farms dot the landscape of Fairview, producing a range of sumptuous goods and tasty treats. Below, a few to check out:

Looking Glass Creamery: small family farm is big into cheesemaking; it produces 1,200 pounds of cheese a week. Visitors to the creamery can enjoy a mountain view in the garden and linger over a carefully crafted cheese board and a perfectly paired bottle of wine, or enjoy the creamery’s caramel sauce and fruit pastes along with handmade products from all over WNC.

Blue Ridge Mountain Creamery: This creamery’s distinctive cheeses are hand-crafted in small batches and cave-aged to perfection. Cave aging gives the cheeses a unique character, imparting a flavor that can’t be duplicated anywhere else in the world. Call and make an appointment to tour the caves and sample the creamery’s cheeses.

Imladris Farm: This farm is a sustainable supplier of jams, jellies and preserves made from locally sourced fruit. Dating back to a land grant from the late 1700s, Imladris Farm still includes and makes use of several of the old farm buildings, the original springs, and tools inherited from family. Farm tours are available by appointment.

Hickory Nut Gap Farm: A serene 90 acres nestled in Fairview, Hickory Nut Gap Farm has been raising 100% grassfed beef, pastured pork, pastured poultry, and apples since 2000. Opened year-round, the farm offers a variety of activities for families, including hay rides, berry-picking, tours and barn dances. Visitors to the farm can stop into the store and butchery to buy farm products or enjoy lunch or brunch.
