As residents of Asheville and Western N.C., Mosaic agents and employees take pride in working with and supporting the outstanding area organizations that advocate for the vitality and health of our local and global community. To that end, a team of 13 Mosaic brokers and staff recently volunteered to help on an Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity job site. The build day at New Heights – a multi-generational neighborhood located 6 miles from downtown Asheville – marks the second year in a row Mosaic has helped with the project, and reinforces the firm’s mission to give back to the Asheville community through volunteering.
Asheville’s multi-generational neighborhood
Habitat for Humanity’s New Heights neighborhood, located off Old Haywood Road, includes single-family homes, two-story townhomes, and single-level townhomes specifically designed for aging adults (55+). The neighborhood is accessible to people in all stages of life and offers a place for 98 households of all ages and backgrounds to build strong, stable futures.
Construction has been broken into two phases. Phase 1 includes the construction of 38 homes. The first home began in spring of 2020 and the last one will close in 2023. Eight of these homes are single-level townhomes specifically for aging adults. The first two Aging in Place units closed in October 2021.
Volunteer opportunities abound
For those residents looking for ways to contribute their time and effort within the Asheville community, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity has construction and home repair volunteer opportunities for both individuals and groups. No prior experience is required; volunteers work alongside experienced construction staff during full day shifts, available year-round Monday through Saturday.
Depending on the stage of new construction, volunteers can expect to: frame floors and walls, set trusses and raise roof ladders, build porches, install windows and doors, paint and stain, install cabinets, trim and flooring, stucco, and landscape. For home repair volunteers, tasks may include exterior painting, landscaping, building handicap-accessible ramps, and more.
Mosaic’s focus on community
Mosaic has succeeded as a regional real estate firm thanks in great part to its focus on people and community. Since its inception 11 years ago, Mosaic has given well over $750,000 to hundreds of nonprofits and events. The patronage that Asheville has afforded Mosaic has allowed the firm to support the city. Whether it’s helping people buy and sell homes, or helping organizations that keep Asheville strong and vibrant, Mosaic is honored to have Asheville’s trust and business.
