The town’s big draw is Cataloochee Ski Area, a popular ski and snowboard resort offering 18 slopes and trails, lessons and special rates for day and night sessions. Afterschool and School Race programs are options at the resort, which also has a large lodge with cafeteria, fireplace and rental shop. Snow tubing at Tube World is another popular cold-weather activity in the area. The tubing park even offers a Wee Bowl Snowplay area for young children not tall enough to tube.

Outdoor pursuits like hiking, camping, biking, whitewater rafting and horseback riding are favorites in Maggie Valley. Golfing, whether at the Maggie Valley Club or miniature golf, is a popular warm-weather activity, as is fishing in the Heritage Trout Waters (a 3-mile section of Jonathan Creek in Maggie Valley).
