Continuing a decades-long tradition of connecting Western North Carolina to the global community through live music, dance, workshops and the arts, LEAF Global Arts Festival kicks off Oct. 19-22, 2023, at Lake Eden in Black Mountain. The festival, of which Mosaic Realty is a longtime sponsor, continues LEAF’s “Legends of the Americas,” a year-long exploration paying homage to First Nation, Indigenous and LatinX art, culture and communities.
Diving deep into traditions at LEAF Festival
The roster of performers – the largest group of First Nation artists LEAF has ever hosted – will bring its energies not only to the stage, but will also lead engaging workshops for festival goers to take a deeper dive into cultural celebrations, respected traditions, and enduring narratives. In addition, favorite LEAF performers are returning as part of the fall 2023 lineup. Artists slated to take the stage include Son Rompe Pera, Rahzel of The Roots, Martha Redbone, Supaman of Apsáalooke, Donna The Buffalo and The Secret Agency with Agent 23 Skidoo, among many others. The hallmarks of LEAF – everything from traditional Appalachian dance, circus arts and puppetry to drum circles, healing arts and poetry slams – will also be on tap.
LEAF Festival Fall 2023 Silent Auction
LEAF Silent Auction is a key fundraiser supporting LEAF Schools & Streets. While participants may get some great treasures and experiences, they are also fueling cultural arts education programs for our local youth in the schools and community led by an extraordinary group of teaching artists and culture keepers!
Visit Trenton Thomas of Mosaic at the Silent Auction at LEAF Global Arts Festival October 20-22 (and keep an eye out for a few online bid opportunities). The auction kicks off Friday afternoon and final bids are Sunday 2pm. “It is such an honor and fun to have Trenton helping lead this fundraiser. Trenton was a part of the LEAF staff from 2013 to 2018, leading the marketing designs, weekend programs, and LEAF To Go Merchandise. Now LEAFers get to (re)connect Trenton as one of our leading Realtors in Western North Carolina,” says LEAF’s Jennifer Pickering.
Discover the Auction in the breezeway of the historic Black Mtn College Studies building often know as the "Ship" which is in the center of the festival down by the Lake- you can't miss it- its huge. Make sure to see the famous murals by Mexican Artist Jean Charlot.
Art, adventure and international cuisine
In addition to performance stages, LEAF boasts a family adventure village, art vendors, culinary artists, and outdoor activities geared to all ages. LEAF’s Juried Handcraft Art Fair is home to more than 50 local and national artisans. And there are plenty of dining options: LEAF Cafe in Eden Hall, along with various culinary booths throughout the festival grounds, provides gourmet, international fare from local chefs, freshly prepared on site.
LEAF, which began back in 1995, takes place amid the stunning scenery of Lake Eden – the site of the old Historic Black Mountain College – and features acres of rolling hills, streams and lakes for festival goers to relax and recharge. Attendees can choose to come for the day, or secure weekend passes to camp or rent on-site cottages.
