Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit Wild Art Springs to Life at The North Carolina Arboretum

Asheville NC Arboretum Wild ArtThe North Carolina Arboretum, the 434-acre public arboretum and botanical garden located within Bent Creek Experimental Forest just south of downtown Asheville, is pleased to unveil its one-of-a-kind exhibit Wild Art, an eclectic sculpture showcase inspired by nature and situated throughout its spacious gardens. The outdoor exhibit – of which Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty supports as a Community Partner  – runs through Sept. 26 and highlights works by 17 local and national artists.

Varied takes on nature

Each of the pieces featured in the juried exhibition displays the artist’s reflections on the theme of “wild art” and the natural world and incorporates seamlessly into the surrounding landscape. Crafted from an array of different materials designed to delight and inspire, the 18 sculptures on display explore everything from animal motion to free-form expressions to the inherent elegance of nature.

Two years in the making, the open-air Wild Art sculpture showcase began as an invitation for artists to create works inspired by the theme of animals and plants near and far, but some artists also took the opportunity to contemplate the isolation of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the peace and comfort they found in wild places.

Highlighting heritage

Art exhibitions at The North Carolina Arboretum aim to honor and preserve the unique cultural and natural heritage of the region and to support the thriving arts industry in Western North Carolina. Alongside those sculptures featured in Wild Art, the Arboretum boasts a large collection of permanent displays throughout the grounds.

Admission to Wild Art is included in the general parking admission fee ($16 per personal vehicle). For more information, visit https://www.ncarboretum.org.
