Toasty Tips for Keeping Things Cozy While Enjoying Western N.C. This Winter

There’s no doubt about it: Winter has come to the Asheville area. But a chill in the air shouldn’t put your outings on ice. Here are a few ways to enjoy the Western North Carolina region while still staying cozy.

Staying Cozy in WNC in Winter

Warm, welcoming lobbies

Asheville is home to a number of expansive and inviting hotel lobbies complete with roaring fires, cozy couches, and warm drinks, perfect for an evening out even when the weather’s frigid. Spots like the Grove Park Inn and the Grand Bohemian Hotel offer bar service by the fire, whether you’re staying on site or popping in for a quick stop.

Spa hot spots

Asheville-area spots like the Sauna House and Shoji Spa offer customers the opportunity to sweat it out, steam up, or soak in the warmth of a special treatment. So even when it’s extra chilly outdoors, you can plan a spa outing that will keep you cozy, relaxed and rejuvenated.

Warm up to a bus tour

Plenty of sightseeing operations offer bus tours through downtown Asheville, River Arts District, Montford and other popular spots around Asheville and Western N.C. Hop on a bus and get ready to learn a lot about the region, all from the cozy comfort of your window seat.

Rooftop (fire)pitstops

Many hotel and bar rooftops are suited up with expansive gas firepits to provide warmth for large parties. Set up by a firepit, sip a hot toddy, and nosh on small bites as you take in the surrounding (often snow-capped) Blue Ridge Mountain views.

Staying Cozy in Asheville in Winter

Quaint, cozy town streets

Bundle up and enjoy outdoor shopping at the quaint boutiques of Biltmore Village followed by hot cocoa and baked goods. Or take a stroll down the cozy streets of downtown Asheville or one of the surrounding mountain towns, with a stop to recharge at the many coffee shops, tea rooms and dessert spots.

A day at the Biltmore

Whether you’re a visitor or a resident of Western N.C., a day spent touring the Biltmore House is always a treat. The mansion may be sprawling, but its rooms are intimate and cozy, perfect for meandering through while winter settles in outside. After a visit to the house, hit the Gardens’ greenhouses, where you can stay extra toasty as you take in an amazing variety of flowers and foliage. Onsite cafes provide plenty of opportunities to grab a warming beverage.
