  • Lake Julian Festival of Lights (Dec. 9-23) – Drive through the glowing, colorful holiday displays at Lake Julian’s annual Festival of Lights.   • Sock It to Me Santa 5K (Dec. 13) – Get into the holiday spirit with the Asheville community while giving back at this festive 5K benefiting the Asheville City Schools Band. Don your most cheerful seasonal attire for this fun and meaningful way to kick off December and lift up arts education in our community.   • A Swannanoa Solstice (Dec. 21) – Celebrate the arrival of winter with this long-standing Asheville favorite at the Wortham Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Asheville. This blend of Appalachian, Celtic and global musical traditions creates a warm and reflective performance that captures the beauty of the solstice season.

  • National Gingerbread House Competition (throughout December) – One of Asheville’s most iconic holiday traditions, the National Gingerbread House Competition is back, showcasing stunning edible creations throughout the Omni Grove Park Inn in North Asheville. Enjoy the creativity of competitors from around the country while immersing in the inn’s festive décor and luxurious surroundings.
