‘Arb in Focus' Celebrates The N.C. Arboretum's 40th Anniversary With Candid Photo Exhibit

See The North Carolina Arboretum from the viewpoint of those most familiar with it!

The NC Arboretum Asheville

From May 23 through Sept. 12 in the Baker Exhibit Hall, “The Arb in Focus: 40 Views for 40 Years” will offer visitors a uniquely candid view of the famed gardens through intimate images. Mosaic Community Lifestyle Realty, a longtime supporter of the Arboretum, is proud to sponsor the photography project, which celebrates the Arboretum’s 40th anniversary.

Capturing the Arboretum’s blooms – and beyond

For the exhibit, 40 people connected to the Arboretum, including staff, members and volunteers, went out onto the Arboretum’s grounds with point-and-shoot digital cameras to photograph what matters most to them. The resulting images capture the Arboretum’s blooms – and beyond – providing an insider view of what it looks like to spend a day on the grounds, through special experiences and singular sights.

Representing hundreds of moments, whether along the Arboretum’s intricate trail network, in its formal gardens, or behind the scenes, The Arb in Focus highlights the beauty of the surrounding plants, trees and trails as well as unexpected experiences around the grounds.

The Arboretum, a 434-acre public garden, is located within the Bent Creek Experimental Forest just south of Asheville and adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 393. Established as an affiliate of the University of North Carolina System in 1986, the Arboretum is surrounded and crisscrossed by forested coves and meandering creeks in the botanically diverse Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Some 65 acres of cultivated gardens sit at the heart of the Arboretum. The Bonsai Exhibition Garden is a world-renowned garden with upwards of 50 bonsai specimens at a time, including willow-leaf fig, bald cypress and limber pine. From early spring through fall, the Arboretum is home to dozens of native wildflowers scattered across the grounds, including bloodroots, fire pinks and yarrows. In late spring and early summer, the National Native Azalea Collection comes to life in a diverse and eye-catching show set among native ferns, shrubs and trees.

After the completion of The Arb in Focus, the cameras will be used for the education department’s Discovery summer camps.
