Spring is taking hold in Western North Carolina, and with the approaching warmth come plenty of opportunities for invigorating outdoor activities. If you’re ready to soak in the season, find inspiration from Mosaic Realty’s agents – and put your own spirited spin on spring in WNC!
Carrie-Welles Craven – I love making violet syrup with fresh-picked violets. It’s a super fun activity to keep the kids occupied in the yard!
Ward Caldwell – As the trees begin to fill in with leaves and everything is still bright green, I love to bring adventurous friends and visitors out to The Gorge in Saluda to go ziplining. Multiple ziplines are woven into the tree canopy and provide an awesome morning or afternoon in the woods.
I’m also a big fan of the Craggy Gardens Trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway. It’s a beautiful trail to hike in the springtime, with wildflowers and rhododendrons in bloom as you ascend to a bald with a breathtaking, unobstructed view of the western mountain range.
Kathleen Cook – The Asheville Herb Festival, held at the WNC Ag Center [April 26-28, 2024], is one of my favorites and marks the true start of my gardening season. I love chatting with the local vendors, planning my garden, asking questions, and simply seeing the joy all the patrons bring to this weekend of herb and plant shopping.
Once the warmer days of spring roll around, I love to plan a weekend morning to head up to the Blue Ridge Parkway pre-dawn. With coffee in hand and nestled in a camping chair at a specific overlook, I find watching the sun rise over the mountains brings me a great sense of peace and well-being. (The first picture in this post is from one of Kathleen's parkway outings!) It's a fabulous morning date or solo experience and the perfect way to start your day. I also recommend grabbing a yummy breakfast or brunch after!
Biking, blooms and breweries: Asheville real estate agents’ springtime outings
Caley Bowman – I love E-biking to the North Asheville Farmers’ Market every Saturday! Biking to breweries is another favorite activity when the weather turns warmer.
Nancy Horowitz – One of my favorite spring activities in Asheville is having a twilight picnic. Whether spreading out a blanket and looking up at the Biltmore, or ending an evening hike along the Parkway, enjoying the warm air, killer sunset and sweet time with family and friends definitely leads my spring must-do list!
Sarah Howell – My two favorite spring adventures are watching all the flower buds grow on the trees before their leaves come in, especially the weeping cherry trees, and getting outside on the extra warm days. Those sporadic days feel like little gifts.
Alyssa Augustine – My favorite spring activity in Western North Carolina is getting outside for long walks to enjoy the amazing weather! We have so many fabulous walking trails right in our city, like the River Arts District loop near New Belgium and the multiple greenways, to the scenic walks around our local lakes like Beaver Lake, Lake Louise and Lake Tomahawk. Spring in the mountains is the best!
Asheville real estate agents’ inside scoop on getting out this spring
Jackie Dirscherl – Exploring the Downtown Asheville Urban Trail, a 1.7-mile self-guided walking journey, is a captivating experience that unfolds layers of history and urban architecture. Even though I’m a native, I find new insights during the two-hour stroll, making each visit a delightful discovery. Additionally, the Navitat [Canopy Adventures] zipline experience is nothing short of amazing, offering an exhilarating adventure and breathtaking views.
Trip Howell -- Enjoying the spring sunshine from the stunning golf course at the Grove Park Inn is always a spring favorite in my book. Here I am enjoying the course and the view from the eleventh tee.
Mike Figura – Spring provides the perfect opportunity to mountain bike the area trails that become overgrown later in the summer. The Coleman Boundary area in Barnardsville is a favorite, with great trails that, although harder to ride in the summer, are ideal for a spring mountain bike adventure.
Spring is also a great time to take in an outdoor concert at Salvage Station or Rabbit Rabbit. These are fun venues year-round, but if you’re sensitive to the heat, then spring is an ideal time to visit these venues before the summer sun gets too intense.
